TABLE-TALK
Table-Talk is a ministry for refugee and asylum-seeking women wishing to achieve English proficiency. The lack of English-speaking skill limits their full participation in the community. The participants and a dedicated team of volunteers meet to have casual one-to-one and small group conversations in which they practice English. In the process they build new friendships across cultures.
The program started in March 2018. With their increased confidence and ability in English, some participants have been able for the first time to meet their medical professionals to discuss their health care needs in English. Others have improved their language skills now have enrolled in more formal English-as-second-language classes further building their reading and writing skills.
Table-Talk meets for 90 minutes each Wednesday and Friday morning at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
